Biography
I am a solicitor in Irwin Mitchell LLP's Public Law and Human Rights department, based in Liverpool and Manchester. I originally joined the firm in September 2019 as a paralegal and returned in September 2022 shortly after qualifying as a solicitor.
I specialise in judicial review and have particular expertise in judicial review cases concerning the rights of asylum seekers and other migrant communities, victims of trafficking and individuals in detention. I also regularly act for individuals in civil claims for damages against public bodies including the Home Office and local authorities.
Judicial Review:
I act for individuals, charities and campaign groups in challenges against policies and decisions made by public authorities, particularly where they impact negatively upon asylum seekers and other migrant groups. I also act for individuals in immigration judicial review cases, where they have received a refusal on an immigration application in circumstances where there is no right of appeal. I have brought successful cases against government departments, including the Home Office, and local authorities.
Private law claims against public authorities:
I have experience in acting for individuals in damages claims for unlawful detention and arising out of breaches of the Human Rights Act 1998.
Inquests:
I represent bereaved families in Article 2 inquests arising out of the death of their loved ones in state detention. I have particular experience in representing individuals whose loved ones have passed away in immigration detention.
Community Care:
I represent clients in challenges to local authorities relating to disputes over care packages and assessments. I also have experience in ensuring that destitute migrant families obtain proper support from local authorities and the Home Office.
