Biography
I am Partner in the Family Team and work across our Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle offices.
I have a wealth of experience in family matters having been at Irwin Mitchell in the family team since 1995. I deal with all aspects of family law, which include:
- Divorce
- Cohabitation issues
- Financial matters arising from separation
- Children disputes, including acting for parents and grandparents
- Pre- and post-marital agreements
- Living together agreements
- Separation agreements
- Civil partnership disputes.
I regard myself as a strong negotiator and advocate whilst applying a sensible and cost-effective approach to my case load.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
At the age of 23 I found myself working as a PA in a law firm. I was totally inspired by the work which was undertaken, the challenges the lawyers faced but the satisfaction of winning a case. I was determined to make my way in life as a lawyer and I enrolled on the CILEX course and studied whilst working full time until I qualified. I have never looked back and have complete job satisfaction”.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
I really enjoy meeting people. I get great satisfaction in finding a solution to what might appear to be a hopeless problem.
All family cases are different and therefore each day of my working life is very different. My aim is always to ensure that a client leaves my office at the end of a case feeling they can move on with their life and it will be better than it was before they came into the office.
I do think the main qualifications you should have to be a good family lawyer are patience, empathy and common sense.
What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
It has to be the working environment. Not only do we have fantastic offices, but it's good to work alongside other specialist lawyers. I love working with a great team who are so talented and ambitious.
Dealing with family law issues, there is often a need to seek other specialist help in respect of property issues, company, tax, employment, and more. My clients don't need to employ experts outside the office - they are all here under one roof.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I have a daughter and two stepchildren and so I understand the challenges of family life and being a working mum. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My retreat is my second home in Spain and the warmer climate.
