Biography
I joined Irwin Mitchell in early 2023 as an Experienced Costs Negotiator. I have worked in Costs since 2014, predominately dealing with Personal Injury, working on Defendant and Claimant positions, as well previously heading up Costs Teams in previous roles.
I have a particular passion for Fixed Costs and given the recent changes in legislation, my move to Irwin Mitchell was to enable me to personally develop in this area and eventually become an Advocate.
I am currently undertaking the ACL's Costs Lawyer Qualification with a view to qualifying in 2025. My expertise has seen me settle cases at Irwin Mitchell in good time, using effective negotiation tactics to avoid Detailed Assessments on good results of over 80% base profit costs.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I really enjoy working at Irwin Mitchell because of the people, my team, and the Costs Senior Leadership Tema are really approachable, helpful and do listen which provides for a good working space. Irwin Mitchell's flexible by choice policy is also a great benefit, I have two children and working full time and studying the ACL is no easy ride, but the flexible works means that I can always ensure my daytime job is done and done to a high standard.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding aspects of my role are achieving good recoveries which lead to good client returns. I also really love a Win! Whether that be at Provisional Assessment or Detailed Assessment.
What inspired you to get into law?
I have always wanted to work within Law since the age of 15. My dream was always to be a Barrister. However, our paths do not always align with our dreams and sometimes we have to take the long way round to get there, but thanks to Irwin Mitchell I am now in a position where I can qualify, gain rights of Audience and become an Advocate and be in the Courtroom.
What do you do away from the office?
Away from the office I am a mum of two children, a girl aged 14 currently in Y10 and a boy aged 11 who's transitioning this year into Secondary. He has additional needs and has an EHCP, but currently remains in Mainstream. I'm a Trauma Informed Advocate and spend my free volunteering for the Sheffield Parent Carer Forum as a Parent Rep delivering Information Sessions and attending conferences.
I'm also an Ambassador of WAVE Trust and attend bi-monthly meetings and lobby schools and MPS to change policy in respect of childhood trauma, abuse and neglect. I spend my Monday evenings at Aquacise and my Wednesday evening at a Line Dancing which supports my mum with her mental health. Football is also the favourite sport in the home, with myself and daughter as Manchester United fans, my Husband a Celtic Fan and my Son a Sheff Weds Owl.
