Biography
I’m a Chartered Legal Executive in the International Serious Injury Team in London, having qualified in March 2018.
I specialise in acting for individuals who’ve sustained life changing injuries from accidents with an international element. This can either be a UK National injured while overseas or foreign individuals who are injured while in England.
What inspired you to get into law?
I always found the law to be such an interesting and vast subject, there isn’t really an area of everyday life where the law doesn’t apply.
I decided that I wanted to go on and study this at University. On graduating, I took on a paralegal role at a small firm in my home town, helping people recover damages following injuries sustained in road traffic accidents. I found that I really enjoyed the investigative side of dealing with personal injury claims.
I moved to London and studied my CILEx qualifications at University in the evenings while working in the day.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
I’m passionate about helping people. My clients come to me at a traumatic time in their lives. I find it so rewarding when I am able to recover damages for them and give them some closure. I like helping clients to move on with their lives and access the treatments, rehabilitation and support that they need.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I work with some of the most talented and inspirational lawyers that I have ever met and I learn from them every day.
What do you do away from the office?
I like to think of myself as rather handy in the kitchen, so I’m often found testing out new recipes and baking up a storm (much to the delight of my family!). I love spending time with my partner and with our families, taking trips to the beach, long walks through the countryside and exploring new countries! I’m also a keen skier and a big rugby fan (the latter as a spectator!).
Testimonials
"I have settled an incredibly detailed, laborious legal battle, after fours years of litigation, in a personal injury case originating from a kayak accident in the Mediterranean sea. Gemma Newton was a fearless, ambitious, pro-active lawyer, going above and beyond her duties in ensuring justice is served. Highly professional, erudite, eloquent, resilient, and also radiating warmth, empathy and kindness, Gemma made this process so much easier. We reached a favourable settlement just a few weeks before scheduled High Court trial and I would like to thank Gemma Newton from the bottom of my heart." - 5* Trustpilot review

Leane and Gemma’s tenacity and professionalism always gave us confidence that we’d eventually achieve a settlement. They were always available to listen to us, guide us and to reassure us. Over the years they really became part of our lives, we trusted them completely. It really has been a difficult time but we’re both so pleased that we found exactly the right people to help us.
