Biography
I am a Senior Associate Solicitor with a special interest in maternal injury claims.
I joined Irwin Mitchell in 2000 and ran an extensive and varied medical negligence and neurotrauma case load. I had a particular interest in brain and spinal injury claims and birth injury cases and worked closely with several charities to support injured clients including Headway, AVMA, CBIT and Children's Trust.
I was the Vice-chair of UKABIF (United Kingdom Acquired Brain Injury Forum), helped establish the ABI APPG (Acquired Brain Injury All Party Parliamentary Group) and co-founded up ABIL (London Acquired Brain Injury Forum).
During the birth of my first child, I sustained life-changing obstetric injuries and had to undergo extensive medical treatment. As a result of my journey, I’ve become an advocate and strong campaigner for women with severe perineal and maternal injuries and have been closely involved with The MASIC Foundation since it launched. MASIC is the only multi-disciplinary charity to support women who have suffered severe injuries during childbirth known as OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries) and works to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of these devastating injuries.
I returned to Irwin Mitchell in early 2023 to work with maternal injury clients, charities, healthcare professionals and policy makers to give visibility to women who have experienced OASI and birth trauma and to improve maternity outcomes for all. I am on the Board of Experts of the Birth Trauma Association and involved with the APPG on Birth Trauma.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
Working with a genuinely empathetic and expert team who value their colleagues and clients. The support I have received having returned to work after sustaining serious injuries has been incredible.
What is the most regarding aspect of your role?
Helping improve the quality of life of clients who’ve been affected because of suffering serious injuries. It's a privilege to be able to work closely with clients to provide answers and to obtain the support needed for their future.
What inspired you to get into law?
My uncle, a barrister who would come back from court with stories that fascinated me as a child. I’ve also always had a real interest in medicine, and so working in medical negligence helping injured clients is a perfect combination of my interests.
What do you do away from the office?
When I’m not running round after my three children or my dog, I love going out with friends for dinner, the theatre, and when I get the chance, dancing!
