Biography
I am an expert in Historical Abuse cases, dealing primarily with Redress and Criminal Injuries Claims as well as Civil Litigation. I have represented survivors in these claims who have suffered many forms of abuse throughout their childhood within the care sector from Foster Care to List D Schools.
I am qualified in Reparation Law: Civil Litigation and Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. Having previously been qualified as a Private Client Paralegal (since 2014), the change in my specialism came about after having worked with the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. I decided I wanted to be more involved in helping those survivors to which I have since dedicated several years to doing.
Key highlights
I have represented many clients who suffered various form of abuse at the hands of Staff Members of Kerelaw List D School, Stevenston. I have also represented many clients in their Redress Scotland claims and secured compensation where Civil Litigation may not have been a viable route, ensuring they had other options to explore and be aware of.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
The culture and the people! I have a really supportive and welcoming team.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
Earning the trust of my clients, especially those who have faced difficulties in placing their trust in others. Being able to assure them with "Yes, I can help you" and guiding them through their case is incredibly fulfilling. In the end, it's saying goodbye to them when they are happy with the outcome and knowing that I played a significant part in their journey. It makes every effort all worthwhile.
What inspired you to get into law?
My journey has been shaped by both my professional experience and growing passion for helping others. I started off in 2013 as a Business & Admin Assistant in a Law Firm where I would have little client contact. My employers recognised my eagerness to be more involved and saw how I communicated well with clients, displaying care and empathy, ensuring to go that extra mile for others. I began working with vulnerable adults, dealing with Guardianship Administration duties and this was an exceptionally rewarding role. I used my skills and knowledge, which I have continued to do since, in making a positive impact on others' lives.
What do you do away from the office?
I am the Vice President of the Scottish Paralegal Committee on top of my full-time job. This is a voluntary role, and I work with a committee of other paralegals in Scotland. Our goal is to promote the interests of paralegals in Scotland and providing them with continuous development opportunities. I play a huge part in event organisation, arranging two large conferences each year between Glasgow and Dundee, while also throwing a fabulous party to finish off the hardworking year.
Away from that, I draw in my spare time and occasionally take on commissions for digital illustrations. I am also a crazy cat mum of two!
