Biography
I'm a solicitor in the medical negligence team based in our Sheffield office. Before qualifying as a solicitor, I worked in the same team as a paralegal. On a day to day basis, I help clients who've suffered an injury as a result of negligent medical treatment.
What inspired you to get into law?
Law has been an interest of mine from a very young age. I began my career by studying Law at Sixth Form. During this time I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in Law. Following my A-Levels I completed my LLB Law Degree at Sheffield Hallam University. Following completion of my degree I applied and completed my Legal Practice Course with Masters at the University of Law.
During my studies, I applied for a work experience role at Irwin Mitchell which I found incredibly rewarding and was a great opportunity. I feel that Law is a very rewarding area to be involved in. The work I do on a day to day basis is to help those in need and provide an excellent service which is one of my main interests of Law. The idea of being able to change a negative situation into a positive outcome for a Client is a fantastic goal.
Prior to working as a Paralegal, I worked as a Client Call Handler at Irwin Mitchell in which I was the first point of call for our Clients. Such experience has enabled me to obtain a wide range of experience of all different aspects of law. Having this experience has confirmed that Law is the role for me.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding aspect of my role is reaching a successful outcome for my Clients. On the basis that my Clients have some sort of impairment, that being either a physical or psychological impairment caused by negligence, the most rewarding aspect is being able to put the Client in the position they should have been, had the negligence have not occurred.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I've worked for Irwin Mitchell since 2017. Irwin Mitchell is a supportive and outstanding firm which stands apart from other competitors. I like working at Irwin Mitchell as there is fantastic recognition following successful outcomes.
What do you do away from the office?
Outside of the office I have a very busy schedule. I currently care for my grandparent which involves doing his food shopping, house cleaning and general day to day care. I am also very active, I attend the gym around 3 times a week. Outside of work I always put aside some time to assist with our local charity organisations.
Once a month I will attend a Special Schools Centre to provide boccia coaching. I'm also involved with other organisations which involve, Paces, IM Healthy Rotherham, Sheffield Smashers, Rotherham College and the Dementia Friendly Unit in Barnsley. Once a year I will arrange with Barnsley Council members a Fundraising charity event for Dementia Friendly involving, Prizes, activities and sponsors from local organisations.
In my spare time, I also offer my services at the Archer Project Homeless Shelter which involves serving meals to the community.
I always feel rewarded when I engage in social responsibilities during my spare time.
