Biography
I am an Associate Costs Lawyer and Technical Specialist working in the Costs Management Team based in Irwin Mitchell's Sheffield Office, but covering work nationally.
I have specialised in Claimant costs recovery and led a bespoke Negotiation Team for over five years which handled well over 300 cases at any one time with case values stretching into the millions.
Since February 2023 I have worked as a Technical Specialist. This has involved advocacy on application hearings and CCMC's as well as leading an improvement project for our Workplace Injury Team whom I work very closely with.
I have a passion for training and recently became an accredited CLSB trainer and regularly deliver training sessions across Irwin Mitchell.
What Is the Most Rewarding Aspect of Your Role?
I find testing myself against an opponent both rewarding and challenging. Any case where I'm needed to push the boundaries, think outside the box and test new arguments I find very rewarding. And of course, doing a great job for my client is the pinnacle.
What Do You Like About Working at Irwin Mitchell?
I have worked at Irwin Mitchell my whole career and have always liked the ethos of the company. The client comes first and on a personal level I have always been able to challenge myself with new roles and progression.
Working in costs I have been able to test myself in countless areas of the business which has also enabled me to meet many like-minded experts in their chosen field.
What Inspired You to Get Into Law?
I studied Law at University and had a family background in the legal industry. I wasn't sure becoming a Solicitor was exactly what I wanted so having completed my course and spent some time travelling I found the idea of a legal role which encompassed financial elements would suit me down to the ground. I'm still here over 13 years later so it must have worked!
What Do You Do Away from the Office?
I was a keen sportsman (until I got old) and now spend my spare time working in both football and cricket in talent identification and coaching roles.
I work with Derby County FC as an academy scout, I am the manager of the Derbyshire U11 cricket team and I also run my own cricket coaching academy, NG Cricket, giving children opportunities to train with professional coaches.
