Biography
I am a Solicitor, specialising in Medical Negligence and I work within our Leeds team. I joined Irwin Mitchell as a Paralegal in the Medical Negligence team in 2019, before starting my training contract with the firm in 2021. I trained in a number of areas and but was ultimately drawn back to the Medical Negligence team and I qualified as a Solicitor here in 2023.
I help people who have been affected by a wide range of issues including:
- Delay in diagnosis of cancer
- Surgical errors
- Claims where families have lost a loved one as result of negligence
- Orthopaedic claims
- Psychiatric injury claims
- Cardiology claims.
I am passionate about supporting clients and getting them answers to the questions they have. I understand the impact that medical negligence can have on our clients and their families, and I deal with all of my cases sensitively and professionally.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
I have always been fascinated by health and medicine, but I have also always enjoyed critically analysing situations and being intellectually challenged. Whilst studying A-Level Law, it became clear very quickly that this was a potential career that I was passionate about, and I found the interaction between law and society particularly interesting.
During my university studies, I was always drawn to the more “personal” legal areas of law. When I was at University, I studied healthcare law and was introduced to the world of medical negligence. It instantly became appealing to me that I was able to pursue a career that combined both of my interests. Medical negligence is a fascinating area that challenges me and gives me the opportunity to learn new things every day.
I enjoy forming relationships with people and supporting others, and I have always felt very passionate about making a difference. Medical negligence is a very rewarding area of law.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
I feel like I genuinely make a difference to people’s lives and everyday gives me the opportunity to help others through a situation they never thought they would find themselves in. I can help find answers for clients and lessen the stress they are experiencing, whether that is emotional, financial or physical. I have always been extremely passionate about patient safety, and I am very grateful to be able to promote this in my everyday role. No matter how small, it is always rewarding to know that I have made a difference to someone’s life or even just improved someone’s day.
What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
I am surrounded by people who are genuinely passionate about supporting clients and striving to ensure the best outcome for them. I am also surrounded by supportive colleagues and an amazing team of people. I work in a very friendly team, and I have always been supported in my career.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I like to keep active when I am not working through running, playing netball and walking my little terrier, Maya. If I am not keeping active, you will most likely find me spending time with my husband, friends and family- usually eating some nice food!
