Biography
I am a Costs Lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, based in Manchester. I have been dealing with solicitors’ costs since 2002. I analyse the solicitors’ file of papers to work out how much work has been done, then prepare a bill to send to the other side for payment. I negotiate costs with the other side and sometimes go to Court to put forward our arguments. When costs are agreed, I make sure that any money due back to our clients goes back to them.
What inspired you to get into law?
Legal costs combines my love of figures (my degree is in Mathematics) with my passion for understanding and applying rules and regulations. After only a few months of starting work in the field I knew I had found my ideal career.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your role?
The most rewarding part of my job is when I get a good result for my client and get to send them back some of their money. The better the result I get negotiating with the other side, the less there is for my client to pay.
What do you like about working at Irwin Mitchell?
I joined Irwin Mitchell in October 2010. It’s a friendly firm, full of people with a real passion for what they do. What I love about it is the sense that we are all part of the same team.
What do you do away from the office?
Outside the office, I enjoy watching movies, playing board games and reading.
