Only Member of England Team To Reach 100 Cap Milestone
A specialist International Personal Injury lawyer is celebrating an achievement in a field which she describes as “so far removed” from her day job.
Kylie Hutchison, who is a Senior Associate solicitor at national law firm Irwin Mitchell, spends much of her spare time on a rugby pitch as part of the England Touch team, and she is the only England player ever – and first player worldwide - to reach the milestone of 100 international Opens caps.
Based in London, Kylie is the lead solicitor currently representing the victims of terrorist attack that took place in Sousse, Tunisia, in 2015, and while her work representing people injured abroad takes up the majority of her day, she enjoys “unleashing” her pent-up energy through her love of rugby.
Expert Opinion
“I’m always very busy, as I do work a lot, but touch rugby is what I enjoy doing in my spare time.
I find it hugely beneficial for me – physically and mentally - as it is very different to my day job, which is mostly spent behind a desk. It gives me an outlet to burn off all the worries and thoughts of the day.”

Kylie was first introduced to touch rugby in Australia, where she is originally from. After moving to England in 2001, she began playing for the England team in 2004. She spent 14 years on the England opens team and has now moved up to the seniors division.
Kylie trains with the England team on a regular basis and takes part in competitions weekly during the Summer months, with bigger tournaments held at weekends. She has also had the opportunity to travel the world while playing in World Cups and European Championships, even enjoying a sponsored trip to New Zealand.
Some 500 colleagues at Irwin Mitchell have signed up to official flexible working patterns in the past year and fitting her rugby around her work life at Irwin Mitchell has never been an issue for Kylie, and the company has always shown her support.
Expert Opinion
“There has never been a problem with me leaving work early, or booking a week off for tournaments. I know that when I have an important competition, I don’t have to work longer than I want to.
I would encourage anyone to find something they are passionate about and just enjoy it!”

The Touch World Cup 2019 is set to kick off in Malaysia at the end of this month, where Kylie will compete in the Women’s 35s category against teams from Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
