Event Aims To Explore The Options And Dispel The Myths In National Apprenticeship Week
As part of this year’s National Apprenticeship Week (10-16 February, 2025) a national law firm is set to deliver an advice webinar aimed at guiding students, parents, career changers, teachers and influencers through the options available to them.
Taking place on Monday, 10 February between 6-7pm, the free webinar led by apprenticeship experts at Irwin Mitchell will walk through the opportunities available at Irwin Mitchell.
The hour-long session will also look to dispel some of the common myths and misconceptions that still surround apprenticeships and why they should form a part of serious considerations for all students, parents, career changes, teachers and influencers assessing or supporting with future career options.
Held every year, National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) aims to raise awareness of the many benefits that modern apprenticeships can offer, allowing individuals to explore all the options open to them and work out the right route to their own future career.
The Irwin Mitchell session will include a mix of information and advice in a variety of formats, including the perspective of current apprentices at Irwin Mitchell, who will be offering their own personal reflections on their experience and what the scheme has meant for them and why they opted for this route over university.
Irwin Mitchell has started over 200 apprentices throughout the firm’s offices across the UK, in a whole range of fields, from law itself, to a host of other options, including IT to fields such as tax and finance. The number of apprenticeship programmes has also increased at the firm, from 3 to 26 during the last 4 years.
This year is expected to see Irwin Mitchell welcome a big intake again of apprentices in September 2025, building on the firm being the number one law firm with the highest number of apprentices.
Lorcan Seery, Apprenticeship Manager at Irwin Mitchell, said: “There still remains a lot of myths and misconceptions that surround apprenticeships, so for NAW this year, we’re pleased to be able to offer an event to challenge some of those and answer people’s questions. It is a real privilege seeing the growth in our apprentices, some of whom who have progressed to more senior roles within Irwin Mitchell.
“Apprenticeships can be a great alternative to university and we’re concerned that not enough people realise this. It’s time to challenge some of the common fallacies about apprenticeships that we still hear, year in and year out. Apprenticeships represent a serious investment by the firm and people are engaged in real work, with a real wage from day one, and let us not forget that any new apprentice opportunity at Irwin Mitchell does not require any prior legal experience.
“While it’s understandable that schools promote university, modern apprenticeships represent a powerful and compelling alternative. There are no fees to pay and students finish their course with a qualification and an established career path laid out in front of them and not just in law.
“There are all sorts of career opportunities available with a firm like Irwin Mitchell and the misconception that students can only come to study law is another we’re keen to dispel. We are particularly pleased this year to offer both legal and non-legal apprenticeship opportunities in 10 offices, continuing our mission to recruit strong talent with the local communities, within which we serve”
