Firm’s Investment In Senior Recruitment Paying Dividends
Irwin Mitchell’s Commercial Dispute Resolution (CDR) team has performed strongly in the latest half year review of the UK’s legal landscape
The in-depth study, which has been produced by the litigation and analytics platform Solomonic, provides valuable insights about UK Courts including the number of cases, the most litigious sector and which law firms are most active.
In the ‘Top Defendant by Volume’ category, Irwin Mitchell is a standout performer, already matching its total claim volume from 2023 in just the first half of 2024. Described as being ‘notably active’, the significant growth places it level with Jones Day.
Additionally, the report says Irwin Mitchell continues to be a ‘powerhouse’ in the insolvency sector, securing fourth place in this highly competitive area.
Irwin Mitchell has also moved up 18 places to secure 14th spot in terms of the number of claims issued (excluding insolvency). This impressive rise places the firm ahead of Gateley, Mills & Reeve, Shoosmiths, and Addleshaw Goddard in the league table.
Expert Opinion
“This report shines a light on Irwin Mitchell’s significant strength across the board in both defendant and claimant commercial litigation. It also demonstrates the growth within our Commercial Dispute Resolution team and reflects the investment we have and continue to make in recruiting high calibre lawyers. This achievement is a testament to our dedication, our client-focused approach and our expertise in high value complex commercial litigation, and we are proud to be recognised for our efforts.” Katie Byrne, Commercial Dispute Resolution partner at Irwin Mitchell
Commenting on the insolvency league table, Andrew Walker, partner and National Head of Restructuring and Insolvency, said:
“We are pleased to retain our top four position and are confident we will overtake last year’s performance in terms of the number of claims issued. This activity is certainly influenced by the uncertain economic outlook, but our strong reputation and track record when acting for our clients continues to drive a significant proportion of this growth.”
Irwin Mitchell’s CDR team is experiencing rapid growth and has recently welcomed three new partners. Garon Anthony, who specialises in Financial Services disputes is based in the Birmingham office. David Vaughan, is in London and is focused on international litigation and arbitration. Most recently Ian Austin, who advises large PLCs and FTSE 100 companies on contractual disputes and shareholder claims, joined the Manchester office.
