Law Firm Irwin Mitchell Scotland To Join Existing Members From April

Irwin Mitchell has become the only law firm to be appointed to the English/Welsh and Scottish divisions of charity Mesothelioma UK's legal panel.

Irwin Mitchell Scotland joins from 1 April, two years after the firm's English counterpart was appointed at the time of the panel being established.

The legal panel was set up in 2020 to enable those diagnosed with mesothelioma, and their families, to seek support from specialist lawyers.  It ensures those affected have access to civil claim payments and government compensation schemes, as well as providing advice and guidance on related issues.

Irwin Mitchell and the seven other existing members of the panel will now be joined by four new firms – including Irwin Mitchell Scotland – in supporting Mesothelioma UK with its fundraising events and campaigns, promoting donations through legacies, sharing information for research  and audit, and supporting claims work.

Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer most commonly associated with exposure to asbestos and predominantly affects the lining of the lungs.  Around 2,500 people are diagnosed in the UK every year, with no known cure currently available.  Early diagnosis and treatment can, however, affect the quality of life of sufferers.
