Irwin Mitchell Nominates Charity Of The Year For 2020

A West Midlands charity which provides around-the-clock deliveries of vital medical products to hospitals across the region is set for fundraising boost after it was nominated by staff at the Birmingham office of Irwin Mitchell to be its Charity of the Year for 2020.

Every year, the national law firm holds a vote for lawyers and others based across each of its 14 offices to select a good cause which they can support for 12 months through voluntary work and fundraising activities.

The initiative is part of work undertaken by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, an independent charity established in 1997 which has raised more than £2 million for a range of different organisations both in the UK and abroad.

This year, the Birmingham office of Irwin Mitchell has voted to nominate Midland Freewheelers Blood Bikers. They are an organisation that provides a dedicated and professional emergency delivery service for the NHS and Midlands Air Ambulance. They carry anything of a medical nature that can safely be carried on a small fleet of motorbikes and the two cars.  This includes whole blood, blood products, plasma, platelets, pathology samples, breast milk, chemotherapy drugs, x-rays/scans, patient notes and along with specialist treatments.  They provide the voluntary service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year and in any weather at zero cost to the NHS.
