Irwin Mitchell Holds 'Routes Into A Law Firm' Event
Irwin Mitchell held an event at its Gatwick office on Thursday 28 March to demonstrate the wide range of career opportunities that exist in law firms.
Targeted at students from local schools and colleges, parents and undergraduates, the ‘routes into a law firm’ event also provided practical advice on how to improve and build up CVs, including obtaining as much work experience as possible and participating in extra-curricular activities.
Organised by Irwin Mitchell Real Estate paralegals, Connor Burford and Danielle Owen, the free event incorporated talks from people working at Irwin Mitchell from across a range of areas including law, sales & marketing, hospitality, finance and risk & compliance.
Each of the ten presenters told their personal stories of their route into a law firm, talking about the unique parts of their role and sharing what their biggest challenges were. They also provided encouragement and tips for students aspiring to work in law firms and gave practical advice about what to do to put themselves in the best position to apply successfully in the future.
Commercial Litigation partner, Sarah Birkbeck, hosted the event and said:
Expert Opinion
“This was a great event and we intend to run similar events in the future. The team of presenters really enjoyed working together to reach this audience which after all is the potential future of the firm.
“The students and their parents and the presenters and other members of the office all took the time to network and ask plenty of questions too, and the nature of the event and opportunity to speak to and follow up with people who work within a national law firm clearly resonated with the audience.
“The message was that whatever your chosen route into a law firm, and whether you had a degree or not or were a career changer there is plenty of opportunity and support to follow your chosen career path.”
