Specialist Medical Negligence Lawyers At Irwin Mitchell Instructed To Look Into Boy’s Death
The parents of an eight-year-old boy who died hours after he was sent home from hospital are hoping an upcoming inquest will provide vital answers regarding their son’s death.
Callum Cartlidge, of Redditch, died on 3 March, 2017, after suffering a cardiac arrest. Paramedics had taken him to Worcester Royal Hospital.
Following his death, Callum’s parents Stacey and Adie Cartlidge instructed specialist medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate and support them through the inquest process. Callum also leaves behind a twin brother, a sister and a little brother.
Callum was sent by his GP by ambulance to Worcester Royal on 2 March, 2017, before being discharged later that day. Just hours later he collapsed and died. It is believed he may have been suffering from Addison’s Disease.
Expert Opinion
We hope that the inquest process will help answer the family’s questions about exactly what happened and why on that tragic day in March last year. They also have some concerns about his treatment leading up to his death and the fact that he was discharged home from hospital the night before.
“We are helping them to investigate Callum’s care and will be representing them at the inquest.” Caroline Brogan - Senior Associate Solicitor
In a statement Stacey and Adie said: “Our family has been left devastated by Callum’s death. We find each day a struggle not knowing why he died.
“While the inquest is going to be difficult, our family need to know if anything could have been done to prevent Callum’s death, and if so, what measures will be put in place so other families do not have to go through the heartache we have had to experience.”
The inquest, at Worcestershire Coroner's Court, in Stourport-on-Severn, is due to last five days.
