Yaser Jabbar: Medical negligence lawyer says families need justice and support as investigation into surgeon's practice expands to five hospitals

As I read the BBC article about Yaser Jabbar, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, I felt empathy for the affected families.

The investigation into Mr Jabbar’s practice has now expanded to five hospitals: the private hospitals St John and St Elizabeth Hospital, Cromwell Hospital, and the Portland Hospital. He also worked at two NHS hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Investigation finds children underwent ‘incorrect’ and ‘unsuitable’ operations

The Royal College of Surgeons’ report into treatment provided by Mr Jabbar at GOSH revealed that numerous children underwent “incorrect” and “unsuitable” surgeries under Mr Jabbar’s care at GOSH, leading to severe and life-altering conditions.

This revelation has understandably caused concern among the families, who are now seeking answers and justice. The report revealed that out of the 37 cases reviewed so far, 22 children have suffered harm, with 13 cases classified as ‘severe harm’. This is a staggering number, and my heart goes out to each of these families.

Very sadly, it has come to light that many of the children treated by Mr Jabbar underwent surgeries that were not only incorrect, but also unsuitable, leading to severe and life-altering conditions.

The Royal College of Surgeons’ report highlighted the lack of proper documentation and consultation in Mr Jabbar’s decision-making process.

Medical negligence lawyers supporting families

My team are representing several affected families. This lack of transparency has understandably left families seeking answers and explanations for the treatment their children received.

We're committed to supporting these families, helping them seek compensation and access the necessary care and rehabilitation they deserve. We have a specialist rehabilitation team which support our clients throughout their legal claims.

Families deserve justice and support

The situation with Mr Jabbar has drawn comparisons to the Ian Paterson case, where systemic failures allowed harmful practices to continue unchecked.

I've called for lessons to be learned from the Paterson Inquiry to prevent similar incidents in the future. As this investigation continues, it’s crucial that we all stand by these families, offering them our support and ensuring they receive the justice and care they need.

They deserve nothing less than full transparency, accountability, and the assurance that such a tragedy will not happen again.
