Transport Committee Launches Inquiry Into Smart Motorway Safety
Specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell representing victims of accidents on Smart Motorways over the past few years have welcomed the Transport Committee's announcement of an Inquiry into their safety and rollout.
Chris Kardahji, a specialist serious injury lawyer and part of a team of lawyers at Irwin Mitchell working with victims of accidents on these stretches of roads said: "We welcome the Transport Committee’s Inquiry into the rollout and safety of Smart Motorways as the number of people killed and injured on such routes is a major cause for concern.
"We’ve seen first-hand through our clients the devastation caused by these issues and we’re determined to do everything we can to support families affected by the use of smart motorways and provide the families with the answers they deserve.”
Irwin Mitchell and its clients have been campaigning for Smart Motorways to be scrapped and earlier this month a Coroner referred the issue to the Crown Prosecution Service recommending Highways England involvement be investigated.
