Do you have, or can you see, Japanese Knotweed at your Property?
An article on the BBC news website has highlighted that a homeowner has been successful in claiming compensation from Network Rail, when he was unable to sell his property due to Network Rail's failure to deal with Japanese Knotweed on its railway embankment.
Japanese Knotweed is an aggressive plant which can have disastrous effects on buildings, and its very presence near to a building can have an adverse impact on a sale or securing mortgage finance.
Unfortunately for the homeowner, in this case, his compensation was minimal.
It is not yet known whether the judgement handed down in Cardiff County Court will set a precedent, but this may cause concern to landowners with large estates who will have to consider the need to manage any Japanese Knotweed, particularly where this is located near to neighbouring land.
