Interesting news from the Birmingham Mail, picked up by Bisnow.com, reveals that Birmingham tops the list for the most new company incorporations in 2016 (outside of London). it would be interesting to know how many of these are tech start ups, and what the impact will be (if any) on demand for new office and mixed use space. Given how many companies are registered at lawyers or accountants' addresses, it may really be an indicator of the strength of the professional services markets in these locations.

Birmingham has been named the most entrepreneurial UK city outside London in a new report. Data released by StartUp Britain, the national campaign by entrepreneurs, based on analysis of Companies House filings, shows that 17,473 new businesses were registered in Birmingham during 2016. This is an increase of 25 per cent on the previous year and more than any other city outside the capital. Birmingham has now retained its position as the number one regional destination for start-ups for four consecutive years. The number of new businesses is almost double that of Manchester's, which follows in second place with 9,416 companies registered during 2016, whilst Glasgow is third with 7,845.”
