Siblings take estate dispute to court

In another seemingly bitter dispute between siblings, Alan and Carolyn Hamilton have recently taken their fight over the estate of their late father, David Hamilton, to the High Court.

The case concerns issues as to whether or not David Hamilton tried to keep some assets out of the reach of HMRC by using a foundation in Liechtenstein.  Alan Hamilton claims the foundation should form part of his father's estate which would entitle him to a half share.  

The foundation was previously divided unequally between the siblings with Carolyn receiving double that of her brother. 

Carolyn's barrister has reportedly stated to the Court that the costs of Alan Hamilton are around £1M which is almost equivalent to the difference between the payments made to the siblings.  The case reminds practitioners and those involved in such claims that yet again family disputes can be costly - both emotionally and financially.
