Our Military Accident solicitors secured our client, Alan, a compensation settlement after he was injured using an Army gym.
What Happened
Alan joined the Army in 2009 and held the rank of acting Sergeant. Unfortunately in 2016, he was involved in an accident whilst in the gym during off duty hours, which led to his medical discharge from the military in 2018.
The gym was based in an old aircraft hangar and often became very hot, causing condensation to set on the floor because of the poor ventilation throughout the building. Alan was doing lunges in the gym when he slipped on the condensation and his right knee hit the ground hard.
Alan knew that he’d seriously injured himself and called out for help. His colleagues came to help him and called an ambulance which transported him to the nearest hospital. Alan found that he’d suffered a serious fracture to his knee.
Alan wanted to carry out a full career in the Army but because of his injury he was medically discharged. He also can’t enjoy his favourite hobby, hill walking, anymore and can only go to the gym for certain activities.
The injury also affected the jobs Alan could do in the future, such as joining the Police which he wanted to do following his full career with the army.
How We Helped
After his medical discharge from the Army, Alan contacted our Military Accident solicitors to help him claim compensation for his injury. Carol Purang listened to Alan’s story and took on his case.
She got to work straight away gathering medical evidence on his behalf. His medical report revealed early arthritis in his knee joint, meaning Alan was at risk of needing a total knee replacement in the future.
Because of the strong evidence Carol put together, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) agreed to pay Alan compensation for his injuries as well as his lost career. Our expert team made sure Alan’s compensation covered the costs of his medical expenses and any rehabilitation or support he needed after his accident. His compensation also took his loss of career into account, including it as part of his settlement.
We managed to secure a total settlement of nearly £400K for Alan. This will go a long way in helping both him and his family move forward with their lives after Alan’s injuries and his lost career.
Alan clearly felt this made a significant difference to his life and said, “Thank you so much for all of your hard work. Myself and my family are so grateful. This will make such a difference to my family.” – Alan, client.
Carol also was very proud to have helped Alan move on from the accident, “Losing your career because of an injury that wasn’t your fault is devastating. I’m so glad we made sure we got justice for Alan and compensation that will help him move forward from this.” – Carol Purang, senior associate solicitor.
