Sharon was left unable to work and worrying about her finances after a coach accident while on holiday. We helped her to claim compensation that allowed her to carry on with her life until she’s able to return to work.
What Happened To Sharon?
Sharon was a passenger on a coach in Spain. During the journey, rain was falling heavily. This made the roads slippery. Sharon noticed the driver was going quicker than she thought he would, given the weather. Sharon was debating whether to get out of her seat to get the driver to slow down or pull over.
She noticed that he appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel. Sharon removed her seatbelt and was about to make sure the driver was awake. Before she could do anything, the coach swerved across the motorway. The driver tried to correct the coach, but this made it oversteer and lose control. The coach then hit a guardrail before colliding with a tree and lamppost, resulting in the coach being on its side on a verge.
How Sharon’s Injuries Affected Her Life
Before the accident, Sharon worked as a radiographer for the NHS. She now struggles to lift her arms above her head. Sharon’s injuries have restricted her ability to work as a radiographer. She can no longer lift heavy equipment. Sharon had to make the hard decision to leave her career as a radiographer. Not only has this affected her financially now but it means she’ll earn less money in the future.
Helping Sharon Get The Compensation She Needed
Sharon originally went to another law firm for help but wasn’t happy with the service they provided. When she approached us for help, we acted fast to make sure Sharon got the outcome she wanted.
As the case was an international case, it had the potential to cause complications. The laws around making compensation claims can differ from country to country. The procedure may also differ depending on what your reason is for being in that country.
We’re the UK's largest and most successful team of lawyers specialising in making accident claims abroad. Several of our lawyers are recognised as leaders in the field. Thanks to our contacts across the globe, the international law aspect wasn’t an issue.
The company responsible for the coach journey argued that by not wearing a seatbelt, her injuries were worse. They believed this wasn’t their fault. We argued that Sharon had no choice but to check the driver was awake to avoid serious injury. This meant taking off her seatbelt.
We were able to reach an agreement for Sharon before the trial, meaning she didn't have to go to court. Sharon received a large settlement to reflect her pain and suffering, as well as cover any future treatment. It also reflected past and future loss of earnings due to her career change.
