Our serious injury solicitors in Sheffield successfully secured a six figure compensation settlement for a Midlands woman who suffered serious injuries in a road traffic accident.
The Injury
Our client, Ann-Marie, was sitting in the back of a car as her daughter’s partner drove when another car hit them head on. The other driver was drunk, uninsured, and driving the car without its owner’s permission. When the emergency services arrived, they took Ann-Marie to hospital for emergency treatment.
Ann-Marie suffered severe injuries and had to undergo risky surgery for them. These included two fractured thigh bones, a fractured elbow and several broken ribs. Ann-Marie also developed a blood clot as well as suffering psychological effects from the accident.
She stayed at Coventry & Warwick Hospital for four weeks before her transfer to Royal Derby Hospital. This is where she had her follow-up rehabilitation.
Before the accident, Ann-Marie worked part-time at Poundworld. Unfortunately, while she was off work from her injuries, the company folded and she was made redundant.
Getting Justice for Ann-Marie
Ann-Marie got in touch with our serious injury team in July 2018 to get justice for her accident. We immediately got to work investigating what happened to her, to prove the other driver was at fault.
We also got to know Ann-Marie’s treatment needs to make sure she got the support she needed. Ann-Marie also needed urgent support to make sure she got her benefits entitlement. So we brought in our client liaison manager to help her through this difficult time.
Thanks to our in-depth investigations, we got the insurers of the other vehicle to agree to cover Ann-Marie’s damages from the accident. Then we worked with them to put together a rehabilitation package to support Ann-Marie and help her recover.
Ann-Marie’s rehabilitation included occupational therapy, physical therapy, assistance support, home aids and equipment. We also made sure she had access to psychological support.
Helping Ann-Marie From Start To Finish
After months of rehabilitation, Ann-Marie really wanted to move forward with her life. So having commissioned expert evidence for her case, we then started negotiating her full compensation settlement. After discussions and negotiations we agreed on a significant six figure sum to settle Ann-Marie’s claim.
After finishing the settlement, we referred Ann-Marie to our colleagues in the Court of Protection Department. They supported her in setting up a personal Injury Trust. This helped her to secure her settlement money and to make sure that she could still claim the means tested benefits she was entitled to. Together our teams helped Ann-Marie to ensure additional security for her future.
What Does Ann-Marie Say About Us?
Ann-Marie was very happy to give us a glowing recommendation, “Our case, although very traumatic for us as a family, was handled and dealt with such professionalism and empathy by Darren Wilson. From the very first contact, Darren always tried to explain things clearly and was always very quick at replying to our queries if we didn’t understand anything. Thank you for everything you did for me Darren. If it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be where we are now. It was a long road, with a lot of pain and tears, but it was great to know you were always there to support me.”
Darren Wilson said “Ann-Marie and her family went through a lot. The accident came out of the blue and when I first met Ann-Marie she needed help and guidance. It has been hard for her physically and emotionally. With hard work and support, things really improved for Ann-Marie. With the help of my colleagues Ann-Marie secured a substantial settlement which she plans to use to start a whole new chapter of her life”.
