Our personal injury solicitors helped a man claim compensation from his employers after he suffered a serious injury at work.
Matthew* was employed by Babcock DSG Limited as an agency worker and was contracted to work for the Ministry of Defence.
While working for the Ministry of Defence he worked with tractors. On one occasion, he was on a tractor with his back to a loaded vehicle. The vehicle started to reverse without Matthew seeing it. When he noticed it, he signalled for it to stop so he could move out the way. The driver of the vehicle didn’t see him so the vehicle continued to reverse into Matthew.
Matthew was crushed between the vehicle and the tractor causing multiple fractures to his pelvis. During his recovery he also struggled with ongoing pain and weakness in his left leg. This caused him to lose his job because he wasn’t strong enough to carry out his work.
Matthew contacted our personal injury solicitors to see if we could help him claim compensation from his employers. Since losing his job Matthew was concerned about his finances and paying for future medical treatment to help him strengthen his leg.
Our team, led by Andrew Buckham, started investigating Matthew’s accident. We were able to get expert opinions from medical professionals. We also carried out a private radiology investigation to assess the extent of Mathew’s injuries by impartial professionals.
With this evidence we submitted a claim against Matthew’s employers. Initially they would not take responsibility for the accident.
We proceeded with the claim and exchanged Schedules of Loss with Matthew’s employers. This is a legal document that sets out how much compensation someone deserves. After this exchange they agreed to settle the claim before it went to court.
Our solicitors negotiated a six-figure settlement for Matthew. This was a very successful outcome and would give Matthew access to the rehabilitation treatment he needed. It would also help relieve his financial worries since losing his job.
Andrew Buckham said:
“We’re so pleased that we could reach a settlement for [Matthew] before going to court. His accident was horrific and caused him to lose his job while still in recovery. Employers need to take more care of their workers and make sure the proper safety measures are in place.
It’s very rewarding to help people at difficult times in their lives and I’m glad [Matthew] got the justice he deserved.”
