Agata Polakowska, 35, was cycling back from work in Northolt, North-West London, when the collision happened. The accident was so bad that she had to be airlifted to hospital, where she was treated for a severe brain injury. She also suffered multiple broken bones and a serious knee injury.

This settlement provided Agata with the much-needed funds to support her extensive recovery. Her injuries still affected her day-to-day life several years after the accident. She was told it’s likely she will need a knee replacement, and she continued to have regular rehabilitation and physiotherapy support.
Looking back at the crash, Agata said: “The whole incident remains a bit of a blur but in many ways I feel lucky to be alive. I am hugely grateful to London Air Ambulance and the staff at St Mary’s Hospital for all of their help.
“There have been many ups and downs since the crash and I get frustrated that I can’t always do things like going for a run or dancing with friends – things that I used to take for granted.
“However, I want to try and look to the future and concentrate on my recovery.
“I just hope that by speaking out, motorists recognise the dangers they pose and the hurt they can cause by not paying attention.”
After the accident, Agata needed many different types of care, including neuropsychology, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. She was also given a support worker to help her, and had more therapy on her injured knee.
