Our asbestos lawyers successfully negotiated a settlement for the family of a carpenter who died from mesothelioma.
Mr M was a carpenter and maintenance man who worked for various companies throughout his career. His employers included Lewis Quantick & Co, Quicksons (West Midlands) Ltd and Middleton Maintenance Ltd.
While Mr M worked at Quicksons, he went on a course for applying Artex (a type of surface coating for ceilings). During the course at Artex HQ, Mr M came into direct contact with large amounts of asbestos in the Artex product.
Later in his career, while working at Middleton Maintenance, Mr M worked on the maintenance contracts for Little Chef and Travelodge and had to do repairs in service ducts which contained large amounts of damaged asbestos.
Mr M retired in his mid-60s but was sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma shortly after. His diagnosis was due to his direct exposure to asbestos throughout his career.
Mr M contacted out asbestos solicitors to see if we could help him claim against his former employers. He was concerned about how his wife would cope with his diagnosis and the suitability of his home which had steep steps and a garden to maintain.
Our team, led by Isabelle Selley, made a claim against Lewis Quantick & Co, Quicksons (West Midlands) Ltd and Middleton Maintenance Ltd. We gathered evidence and witness statements to prove that Mr M was exposed to asbestos while working for these employers.
Sadly, Mr M died before the claim settled but our team continued with the claim on behalf of Mr M’s estate.
We secured a settlement for Mr M’s family which, while it could never replace him, was an acknowledgement that he hadn’t been protected by his employers as he should’ve been.
Isabelle Selley commented: “Mesothelioma is a devastating disease for anyone to go through and leaves many families without answers.
This case shows how many employers in the past put their staff in danger.”
