Our serious injury solicitors helped a cyclist make a successful compensation claim after suffering multiple injuries when a driver turned across her path while she was cycling.
Victoria Gibson was training for an Ironman competition in Tenby, Wales, when she collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction. She suffered multiple serious injuries including a brain injury, spinal fractures, a fractured eye socket, and a broken ankle.
Luckily, a group of off-duty soldiers were nearby and gave Victoria first aid while they waited for emergency services. She was airlifted to University Hospital in Cardiff where she spent the next two weeks in an induced coma.
Victoria’s injuries completely changed her life. She had to step down from her role as head of PE at Crispin School and now only works part-time. She started cycling again but because of fatigue she can’t reach the same levels of fitness before the accident. Recently, she’s also suffered issues from damage to her teeth and problems with her vision and speech.
The Dispute
Victoria and her husband contacted our serious injury lawyers to look into the accident. The investigation, led by Georgina Moorhead, proved that Victoria wasn’t responsible for what happened. The insurers admitted that the driver turned into Victoria’s path without checking the way was clear.
How We Helped
Admitting the driver was responsible meant our lawyers could negotiate a settlement without going through a lengthy court process. We secured a six figure pay-out for Victoria which will help fund the specialist therapies and rehabilitation she needs to recover from her injuries.
“Victoria has made tremendous progress but still faces many challenges with her injuries . . . Through our work we often see the consequences of what can happen when vulnerable road users, such as cyclists, are involved in collisions. [We need] to reflect on the responsibility that all of us have to keep ourselves and others safe from harm on the road.” – Georgina Moorhead, serious injury solicitor
