Our Armed Forces solicitors in Southampton secured a six figure settlement for a soldier injured while completing a course with the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Peter* was taking part in the Junior Brecon Course, which would lead to a promotion, when he was injured.
During the course Peter fell and sustained an open fracture to his right distal tibia and fibula and injuries to his left shoulder. His leg injuries were so severe that he faced a possible amputation of his right leg.
These injuries meant Peter had to be medically downgraded from his current position in the Armed Forces. In 2015 he was discharged because his injuries were too severe to carry out daily activities.
Peter contacted our armed forces team to help him claim compensation from the MOD. Our solicitors negotiated a settlement and the MOD accepted they were responsible for Peter’s accident.
The settlement was enough to make sure Peter would get the financial security he needed to manage his injuries. It also included further payment if his leg needed to be amputated in future.
“Peter’s accident has really affected his life and career. His settlement will mean he has the care he needs going forward so he doesn’t have to worry about his finances. We’re glad we were able to help him through this difficult time.” – Irwin Mitchell Solicitor
