"I am able to be happy"
Our medical negligence solicitors have secured a compensation settlement for Kit, who was left with cerebral palsy after mistakes were made during his birth.
Kit was under distress during delivery but medical staff at Harrogate Hospital failed to recognise his symptoms. Kit developed cerebral palsy which means he has difficulty speaking and needs help to get around.
Despite this, Kit and his family have worked hard to ensure he is able to have every opportunity at a healthy, active, and happy life. They got in touch with us to investigate Kit’s medical care and we were able to secure him a compensation settlement.
A Positive Road Ahead
Kit’s settlement has helped his family get Kit the vital support he needs, today and in the future.
We made sure that Kit got interim payments while his claim progressed. This meant that his family could buy a wheelchair-friendly car and move into a purpose-build house adapted to Kit’s needs. The house is full of technology that has really improved Kit’s home life.
The interim payments also ensured that Kit had access to the very best physiotherapy, speech and language therapy as soon as possible.
Rachelle Mahapatra, a medical negligence solicitor in our Leeds office, worked on Kit’s claim. “Kit is truly inspirational and so are his family who always focus on how he can get the best from life,” she said. “They always consider everything he can do before thinking about what he can’t.”
Ability Before Disability
Kit absolutely loves being outdoors with his family and their dogs. His walking frame and wheelchair let him feel as independent as possible.
He’s football mad and is a massive Manchester City fan. He also enjoys playing football with Adversity United, an under-12’s disability football club in Harrogate.
Kit’s family are particularly proud that he can attend a mainstream school – a real testament to Kit’s incredible determination.
“Irwin Mitchell have been a huge help through the years and share our views on the importance of a positive outlook on life, said Kit’s mum, Joanna. “Nothing should hold anyone back from doing what they want to do.”
