Our road traffic accident solicitors helped a client, Faiza*, claim compensation after she was hit by a black cab while walking across a zebra crossing. Faiza suffered multiple broken bones, bruising and a moderate-severe brain injury.
What Happened To Faiza?
Faiza was crossing the road at a zebra crossing with her sister when they were both hit by a black cab as they walked in the middle of the road. The two women were rushed to hospital for treatment. Faiza suffered multiple broken bones, bruising, damage to her organs and a moderate-severe brain injury.
As she was an international student studying in the UK, Faiza spent some time in recovery in the UK hospital before flying home to be with her family. She needed help from her housemate when she returned home because Faiza suffered cognitive impairment and fatigue.
How We Helped Faiza
Faiza was referred to us by the National Accident Helpline. Our specialist road traffic accident solicitor, Zoe Vallance, took on Faiza’s case to help her make a compensation claim.
Zoe started gathering evidence to show the extent of Faiza’s injuries, as well as evidence to show that the black cab was at fault for her accident. Zoe got a specialist medical experts to give evidence about the extent of Faiza’s injuries and their cause. Zoe also worked closely with our in-house collision investigator to give evidence that showed the accident was caused by the black cab driver.
Zoe tracked down witnesses from Faiza’s accident to give more evidence about what happened to her. Zoe had some difficulty accessing the right rehabilitation in her home country.
Because of this, Zoe arranged for Faiza’s rehabilitation to take place remotely so that Faiza’s recovery could be reviewed by the same team that treated her in the UK. She also arranged for Faiza’s medicolegal appointments to take place in the UK during a trip Faiza had already planned.
Getting Faiza The Compensation She Deserved
The black cab driver’s legal team immediately admitted they were responsible for Faiza’s accident but they argued that Faiza was partially at fault. Zoe spent a long time negotiating on Faiza’s behalf, insisting that Faiza couldn’t be blamed for her accident.
She brought Faiza’s case to court but the evidence she’d gathered against the black cab driver convinced his legal team to settle before the court date.
The driver’s legal team admitted full responsibility for Faiza’s accident and offered her a six-figure compensation amount. This will go a long way toward Faiza’s on-going rehabilitation.
“It was particularly hard for Faiza to have been in involved in an accident so far away from her home country and her family. I’m so glad I could get her the compensation she needed to make the best recovery possible.” – Zoe Vallance, road traffic claims solicitor.
